With a bit of luck, it was amazing to find a ticket reserved for press to the Premiere screening of the Ruben Ostlund’s film “Triangle of Sadness”. After an hour of the screening, I was overcome with the feeling that this film would could very well be the festival winner. The film portrays all the problems of the modern society’s evolution.

A stunning lady of influence played by Charlbi Dean Kriek and her estranged boyfriend, played by Harris Dickinson, who feels “second best” next to his gorgeous influencer girlfriend end up on a luxurious cruise, a gift of the influencers’ sponsors. While the couple argues cause of the boyfriend’s jealousy and lack of self-esteem, the ship from a luxurious cruise adventure turns into a sinking “Titanic’ style nightmare.

Surrounded by Russian and British millionaires (all who have made their money from questionable businesses), the couple faces a real sinking ship drama with the crew trying to pretend that everything is going according to plan, while preparing a luxurious captain’s dinner. American Actor Woody Harrelson plays in the film the role of the sinking ship’s American captain who is an alcoholic and socialist.

A key scene of the film must be the power discussion between the American socialist captain and the guest of the cruise a Russian billionaire capitalist who argue about politics while the ship is going under water. At some point, the Russian billionaire capitalist proclaims himself the “owner” of the ship and the American socialist Captain almost lets the Russian take over, but the Ruben Ostlund’s Titanic has already sunk.

The only lucky survivors of the cruise find themselves stranded on an uninhabited island where the “power” passes to a lady from Philippines who was a “toilet manager” on the cruise ship. Being the only one who could fish, cook and make fire, the ex-toilet manager of the ship proclaims herself, the Captain of the Island. In order to survive the others, have to obey her orders.

This is where Ruben Ostlund explains - “And what happens there is of course that all hierarchies are gone. And it’s a lot of fun then to cook when the hierarchy is shifting over”.

The Triangle of Sadness generated such a big success that the screening ended up with an eight-minute standing ovation at the Cannes Film Festival 2022. Following the event, Ruben Ostlund said: “What a wonderful screening. What an ensemble we had. Thank you so much. “

According to IMDB, the film has a planned release date of October 7th 2022 in Sweden, home of the Director Ostlund. This dark and social modern satire is definitely a must see movie for any viewer.
