The second edition of International Film Festival & Awards Macao took place between 8–14 December 2017, with over 40 films from around the world shown on the big screens.

The festival was founded in 2016 with the mission to create a meeting place for Asian and Western filmmakers and industry to collaborate in both artistic and business terms, as well as to establish itself as a hub for new filmmakers in Asia and create industry programmes to support them.

Macao is a special administrative region of China located just 40 miles from Hong Kong. It was a Portuguese colony from the 16th century until 1999 and is known for its peculiar blend of Chinese and Portuguese cultures. This has given rise to a unique and hybrid urban culture, which gives the city an air of romance and nostalgia.

This combining of cultures is reflected in the festival’s ‘East meets West’ approach which could be seen across the programme and in the competition jury, which included Western and Eastern film industry names.

The festival seeks to put a spotlight on Macao as a new cultural destination and a location for film production.
