This January 29-31, Manhattan welcomes back for the twelfth year in a row a unique art house cinema programme, Bronx World Film Cycle, the carefully curated flagship programme of non-profit Bronx World Film, Inc., strong on contemporary world film in a wide range of genres and styles and screening at the historic La Nacional - Spanish Benevolent Society on West 14th Street. Over three days the Cycle offers 44 films by 39 directors from 25 countries, including features, featurettes, short films and micrométrages. It casts a bright spotlight on filmmakers of color, youth, women, emerging and established Bronx creators and Native American film artists. As pioneer presenter of films from Central America, Bronx World Film Cycle offers exciting new works new from the isthmus’ burgeoning art house film movement.
Host venue La Nacional (Spanish Benevolent Society) on West 14th Street was founded by the emigré Spanish community in 1868, making it one of the oldest such entities in New York City. It is famous for Spanish language, flamenco, tango classes. The 100-seat gallery on the second floor of La Nacional has hosted Bronx World Film, Inc. since its founding in 2011. It is also home to a top-notch Spanish restaurant, which audiences are cordially invited to visit on the ground floor, with an exquisite menu that includes molecular gazpacho and a careful selection of Spanish wines, a perfect pairing for the selection of films taking place throughout the course of the day. the 100-seat non-profit.
