Celebrities Honored Legendary Actor Jeff Bridges at The Chaplin Awards 2024
Oscar-winning actor Jeff Bridges, 74, was honored with the 49th Chaplin Awards at the Lincoln Center on April 29th, 2024. Bridges has won several accolades including an Academy Award, a Golden Globe, and a Screen Actors Guild Award. Some of his most prominent projects include Crazy Heart, True Grit, Iron Man, and The Big Lebowski.
“One of America’s greatest actors, Jeff Bridges is an artist and creative soul who naturally brings compassion and depth to every role he inhabits. His humanity and intelligence inform iconic characters such as Rooster Cogburn in True Grit, Duane Jackson in The Last Picture Show (NYFF9), and of course the iconic Jeffrey ‘The Dude’ Lebowski in The Big Lebowski,” said Lesli Klainberg, president of Film at Lincoln Center, in an announcement on the center’s website.
The Chaplin Awards were first established in 1972 by Kiera Chaplin, granddaughter of famous actor and filmmaker Charlie Chaplin. Since its creation, a yearly gala fundraiser takes place to honor the winner of that year’s Chaplin Award, which is considered a great honor. Those awarded are recognized for their “exceptional contributions to the cinematic sphere, reflecting a career-long commitment to excellence.
Bridges joins the ranks of other notable Hollywood stars such as Alfred Hitchcock, Sidney Poitier, Barbra Streisand, Martin Scorsese, Meryl Streep, Spike Lee, Cate Blanchett and Viola Davis.
“Jeff Bridges is a man who hates to work and he loves to act, so he made sure that when he does work it comes as close as possible to play,” said actor John Lithgow in a video posted by Film at Lincoln Center.

Actress Sharon Stone shared that she has seen Bridges develop into a variety of beautiful characters over the years, but the “purity” of his soul always came through. Rosie Perez, Chris Pine, Blythe Danner, and Sharon Stone spoke during the ceremony about their experiences working with Bridges and were on hand as he was with the award. Other celebrities in attendance included Sarah Paulson, Jeremy Shamon, Taylor Re Lynn, Kiera Chaplin, Franklin Eugene, Gloria Reuben, among others.
Most recently, Bridges held a starring role in the FX series The Old Man. He is expected to appear in the upcoming Tron and Tron: Legacy sequel Tron: Ares.
