Fifteen Years of Independent Film in the Bronx Lead by Walter Krochmal
Bronx World Film will mark its fifteenth anniversary on Wednesday, April 22, 2026, with a public celebration at the Andrew Freedman Home in The Bronx. The event is organized under Bronx Frame, the film and moving-image exhibition initiative of the venue. This anniversary recognizes fifteen years of community-based programming that highlights independent voices in cinema and supports filmmakers from the Bronx and around the world.
A Showcase of Short Films from Around the World
The program will include 30 short films by 33 directors from 18 countries. The selection comes from the Bronx World Film catalogue and reflects its wide range of cinematic styles, genres, and cultural perspectives. Viewers will see new artistic works and innovative visual storytelling. The lineup emphasizes the organization’s long-standing focus on both local and global creativity.
A Platform for Collaboration and Discovery
Bronx World Film continues to serve as a meeting point for artists, audiences, and communities. The fifteenth anniversary event offers a space for exchange and discussion among international guests and Bronx-based filmmakers. Participants can explore how film links local stories with wider global themes, while celebrating the diversity of ideas that have shaped the organization’s history.
The Nican Mopohua App Pre-Launch Presentation
A highlight of the evening will be the pre-launch of the Nican Mopohua app. This new app recreates the manuscript that describes the appearance of the Virgin of Guadalupe to an Indigenous peasant in ancient Mexico City. The project was developed by manuscript specialist Ramón Abajo and produced by The Vellum Page in partnership with a group of young Spanish artists. The narration of the digital work is led by Walter Krochmal, Executive Director of Bronx World Film.
Art and Technology in Film Creation
The Nican Mopohua app is designed for audiences interested in the intersection of traditional art and modern technology. It shows new ways to combine text, image, and sound within a digital environment. For filmmakers and visual artists, this presentation opens discussion about audiovisual microproduction and its potential in contemporary media.

The Andrew Freedman Home as Cultural Venue
The Andrew Freedman Home is one of the Bronx’s most respected cultural landmarks. It has become a steady location for exhibitions, performances, and community education programs. Hosting the Bronx World Film XV Anniversary at this site highlights the borough’s ongoing role as a center for arts activity and creative innovation.
