New Zealand Rings in the New Year 2019
Auckland - the first major city in the world to greet the new day - is gearing up to be the first to see the light in 2019 with a New Year's Eve visual and entertainment extravaganza that will light up Auckland's cityscape. For the first time, the stunning Vector Lights on Auckland Harbour Bridge will join in the celebrations from 9pm, before a 10-second countdown to midnight when the bridge lights will pulse in time with the lights on Auckland Sky Tower. At the stroke of midnight, Vector Lights will explode into life with a five-minute light show designed in sync with SkyCity's fireworks spectacular. Vector Lights will shine until 1am, illuminating the waters of the Waitemata Harbour which in two year's time will be the home of the next America's Cup. As part of Auckland's celebrations, the Wondergarden Festival at the harbour-side Silo Park - featuring world-class international and local acts - will enjoy panoramic views of the Vector Lights and Sky Tower. *Vector Lights is part of a smart energy partnership between Vector and Auckland Council in collaboration with the NZ Transport Agency, the guiding light toward a smart energy future. Its 98,000 LED lights are solar powered.
