An Artistic Ode to Unity and the Human Spirit
On the rooftop of the Arlo NoMad, high above the bustling streets of Manhattan, something extraordinary has taken shape. Renowned artist Rey Jaffet has just revealed the highest mural in New York City, transforming the side of the building into a breathtaking canvas at ART NoMad, the hotel’s elevated bar. To bring this vision to life, Jaffet strapped into a safety harness and ascended the scaffolding up 31 stories above the city. He worked his magic with intricate spray painting techniques, capturing both the thrill and the artistry behind this monumental project.
The mural, titled “Your Spirit,” is a 30’ x 40’ masterpiece that invites onlookers to pause and reflect. It portrays a radiant, glowing figure in motion, seemingly flowing through the cosmos, frozen in a moment where time stands still. Jaffet’s intent is clear: to inspire a sense of unity and remind everyone that we are all connected, emanating from the same source and the same universal spirit. The piece is not just a visual spectacle but a call to recognize our shared humanity and the boundless energy that ties us all together.
Born and raised in Miami, Jaffet has left his artistic mark throughout the city, experimenting with an impressive array of mediums such as stainless steel, fire, laser modules, lighting systems, oils, acrylics, aerosol, inks, and mixed media, each chosen to create dynamic experiences that balance movement and stillness. His reputation for pushing boundaries is well-earned; in 2015, he created the tallest mural in Miami, only to surpass himself in 2018 with the 14-story “Declaration of Hope.” Now, he’s set his sights on New York, raising the bar yet again.
To accompany the mural, Jaffet penned a short, evocative poem that captures the essence of his work:
From the source of my soul I feel we are free,
An infinite flow on freedom’s eternal frequency
In the ancient current of now,Pure light and unity,
A timeless embrace of Your Spirit
