Celebrating Connection, Empowerment, and Community with Women Over Dinner in Harlem, New York

On the evening of April 17th, 2025, a group of women gathered in Harlem for a unique experience: Women Over Dinner, an initiative dedicated to fostering sisterhood, connection, and the remembrance of women's inherent power. The event, held at 2277 3rd Avenue, was part of a growing movement that has already brought together thousands of women worldwide to share meals and meaningful conversation.

Origins and Vision for Women Over Dinner

Women Over Dinner was founded by Nicole Daedone, inspired by her manifesto affirming the inestimable power of women. The idea took shape with the encouragement of Angel Grant, creator of Death Over Dinner, who offered the format’s intellectual property to adapt for women’s gatherings. The result is a movement rooted in the belief that fulfillment and connection-not just rights-are the foundation of a true women’s movement. As Daedone, who draws on her Sicilian heritage, puts it: for women, food, love, and connection are inseparable.

The Dinner Experience

Each Women Over Dinner event is carefully structured as a facilitated roundtable. The format is designed so that every woman has the opportunity to share her story and insights without interruption or cross-talk. This creates a rare space for genuine expression and deep listening, allowing each participant’s unique brilliance to be seen and honored.

The Harlem dinner on April 17th was no exception. Women gathered around the table, responding to curated prompts about impact, power, and liberation. The evening was substance- and alcohol-free, ensuring a clear and intentional environment for connection.

A Movement, Not Just a Meal

Women Over Dinner is more than an event; it is a global movement with the ambitious goal of reaching 100 million women. As of May 2025, over 3,400 women have participated in more than 310 dinners, with new gatherings scheduled regularly across cities and virtually. Each dinner is an opportunity for women to "remember together what is most vital: that we are the jewel; we are the thing that everyone is seeking".

A distinctive aspect of the initiative is its commitment to women in prison. Fundraising at each dinner supports programs that bring the Women Over Dinner experience to incarcerated women, helping them rediscover their power and creativity and fostering community both inside and outside prison walls.

How to Join or Host

Women interested in joining the movement can attend upcoming dinners or host their own. The organization provides a comprehensive dinner kit with guidelines, a host script, and thought-provoking questions. Dinners typically seat 6-8 women and can be held at home, in restaurants, or any comfortable venue. After each dinner, hosts and participants are encouraged to share their experiences online, helping to inspire and connect women around the world.

Reflections from Harlem

The Harlem dinner on April 17th was a testament to the power of this format. Attendees described the evening as nourishing, both in food and in spirit. The sacred simplicity of the dinner table became a space for women to see and be seen, to exchange wisdom, and to remember their collective strength.

As the movement continues to grow, Women Over Dinner invites all women to the table-reminding them that together, they can reshape the world, one meal at a time.
