The Restfull Nights 1st Annual Annual Fashion Show Turns Heads
Written by: LaKisa Renee
The Restfull Nights 1st Annual Annual Fashion Show and Fundraiser was held this past weekend at the Premiere 718 Venue in Brooklyn, NY. It was coordinated by Kareem Everett, Operations Managers of Restfull Nights and Hosted by myself, LaKisa Renee. It featured a mix & mingle, comedian, live R&B and hip-hop performances and a fashion show. The event began with a mix and mingle for the guests, models and talent including food, drinks, photos and music by DJ Wayne Haywood (@vbyz1_wayne), who kept everyone dancing to the hottest hits throughout the night. Rakim The Comedian opened up the event with a hilarious improv routine that set the tone for the night. He kept the crowd laughing the entire time.
Next up was a R&B /hip-hop entertaining performance by Prince Rosé (@hbkprince_) with a feature from Duracell (@mrduacellmusic). The performance included a set of mid & uptempo original songs that had the guests jamming. The last performer of the night was a talented young boy by the name of Lawrence aka L-Balla who stole the show with his rap performance that included an acapella verse reminiscent of hip hop greats. The finale of the night was the fashion show moderated by me which featured all donated clothing from the community modeled by women who live at the shelter. The ladies rocked the runway in styles from skirts, dresses and rompers to joggers and jackets. It was amazing to see the women walk with so much confidence and feel beautiful as this was the first fashion show appearance for most. The show proved that you don’t have to spend a lot of money on clothing to look fabulous. It’s all about how you wear the clothes and add your own unique style to the clothes. All of the proceeds from the event were donated to the Restfull Nights Corporation towards the funding of their shelter and programs. Kareem is a longtime friend and former co-worker. We worked together for years in Syracuse, NY advocating for HIV/STDs, mental health, community services and more, coordinating many outreach and entertainment events. I was honored to host the fundraiser as it was something dear to my heart. I’m so proud of his journey and what the agency is doing for the communities in NYC.
