Venice Film Festival 2020: Women Triumph in cinema with the Golden Lion
The Venice Film Festival 2020 gave us indescribable emotions thanks to "Lacci", an Italian film Out of Competition, and the Volpi Cup for "Pieces of a Woman" awarded to the actress Vanessa Kirby and the Golden Lion. The top prize went for the first time female Chinese director Chloé Zhao for "Nomadland", a film adaptation of Jessica Bruder's book, starring Frances McDormand. The prize named after Luigi De Laurentis for the Golden Lion of the Future, dedicated to new directors, went to the Portuguese director Anna Rocha de Sousa for the film "Listen" presented in Orizzonti. This year a total of eight female directors were in competition. Hurray for progress and diversity in film! We could not be more proud of this phenomenal group of talented women in the industry paving the way for others.
